The CONCACAF u20 championship comes second on the list of longest-running international football association events. It’s a gateway for qualification to FIFA U20 world cup championship.
The 2022 edition of the Concacaf u20 championship is of great importance that decides who will qualify for the FIFA men’s under20 world cup that will be played next year in Indonesia. The Concacaf u20 championship is currently hosted in Honduras.
This tournament will decide two teams to become part of the summer Olympics in 2024. The first team who qualified for the Concacaf u20 is the USA, whereas the second qualified team is Honduras. These two teams will face each other in the summer Olympics 2024, which is scheduled to be played in Paris, France.
The USA team, who are currently defending the Concacaf Under20 Championship due to their last victory in 2018, are not in the same bracket as Mexico-the most dominant team of all time. And the only place where these two teams will meet each other in the finals.

CONCACAF U20 CHAMPIONSHIP SCHEDULE
In the round of 16, eight-team who managed to qualify for the quarterfinals included the Dominican Republic, who beat El Salvador 5-4, and no doubt it was a tough competition. Similarly, it was a dramatic scene when Guatemala won and qualified for the quarterfinals after beating Canada with a penalty kick.
The four teams who qualified for the quarterfinals on 25th June are Costa Rica, Panama, the USA, and Honduras. Among these teams, USA and Honduras qualified for the semifinals yesterday, 28th June.
However, the other four teams in the round of 16 who qualified for the quarterfinals on 26th June are Guatemala, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, and Mexico. These four teams will play quarterfinals on 1st July to decide the semifinal qualifiers.
One of the two teams who will reach the finals in either the USA or Honduras-current two semifinalists.
Teams in group E-H were the best players in the region, which includes Mexico. On the contrary, the teams in groups A-D were low-rank teams.
- Group E nations include the USA, Cuba, Canada, and st. Kitts and Nevis.
- Group F nations include Mexico, Haiti, Trinidad and Tobago, and Suriname.
- Group G nations include El Salvador, Guatemala, Panama, and Aruba.
- Group H were Honduras, Jamaica, Costa Rica, and Antigua and Barbuda.
Groups A-D were concluded in November 2021; moreover, these groups were composed of low-rank teams listed below.
- Group A includes Curacao, Grenada, British V.I, Sint Martin, and Dominica.
- Group B includes Dominican Republic, Saint Lucia, Belize, Saint Martin, and Anguilla.
- Group C includes Puerto Rico, St. Vincent & Grenadines, Bermuda, and Barbados.
- Group D includes Nicaragua, Cayman Islands, Guyana, and U.S. Virgin Islands.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM CONCACAF U20 CHAMPIONSHIP 2022
Concacaf u20 championship doubles because it will qualify the team for both events, i.e., the 2023 FIFA men’s U20 world cup and the teams’ qualification for Summer Olympics 2024.
CONCACAF will qualify two teams for the Summer Olympics 2024 and four for the FIFA U20 World Cup 2023. Furthermore, the total number of teams will qualify for the event is 6. Four teams from the Concacaf u20 championship will qualify for the 2023 FIFA men’s world cup, whereas only two teams will qualify for the summer Olympics 2023 in the following year in Paris, France.
So far, only two teams have been qualified for FIFA u20 men’s world cup 2023, including USA and Honduras, while the other two teams are yet to be decided. Moreover, the USA team has appeared 16 times in this event, whereas Honduras has appeared eight times.
