This term originated due to the powerful hitting ability of Babe Ruth-a legendary baseball player. Similarly, another term is “Steve Blass Disease,” which defines players who initially perform astoundingly but later become below-average players.

Just like the terms mentioned earlier, the term “Mendoza line” came into being due to the inability of Mario Mendoza to achieve a score of 0.3. Although he played for nine years, that was due to his superb defensive skills, which are highly important in baseball games. He was highly admired for his fielding.

During his career in the MLB league, Mario barely scored above 0.2, and fans would think he was sure-out.
